Kathmandu, Jan 28: Nepali Congress president and leader of main opposition party, Sher Bahadur Deuba, has urged the Speaker to take the opposition parties into confidence to run parliament.
Congratulating newly elected Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota in today's meeting of the House of Representatives, the president of the main opposition party said, "Speaker is neutral post. I want to urge the Speaker to pay attention to the fact that parliament is of opposition party. Criticizing about the laws brought by ruling parties in the parliament is our duty."
He mentioned that the government has tabled some bills against the sentiment of the constitution at the parliament and stressed that the anti-human rights and anti-press freedom bills should not be passed.
Leader Deuba expressed the view that full press freedom was necessary for democracy. Saying it was necessary to run 24-hour 'Help Desk' to minimize risk of coronavirus, President Deuba stated that the government should pay attention about Nepalese living in China.
Briefing that Nepal had signed the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) during the term of the then Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, he argued, "Nepal is going to receive such huge US assistance. Why not Nepal should receive the US assistance which is for exporting Nepal's electricity to India? The MCC should be passed from the parliament immediately."
