By Chabi Pandey, Butwal, Aug. 2: The Lumbini Provincial Assembly members from the opposition alliance have requested the Province Chief to form a new government as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution.
Meeting Province Chief Amik Sherchan on Monday, the members of the opposition coalition demanded the formation of a new government as provisioned by the Constitution.
Members of the opposition parties including the Nepali Congress, NCP (Maoist Centre), Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal, and Rashtriya Janamorcha Party, said, "Even though the current provincial government was formed as per Article 168 (1), the government was formed under alliance which now falls under minority. Thus, a new government should be formed in line with 168 (2)."
Birendra Prasad Kanaudiya, leader of the NC Lumbini Provincial Assembly parliamentary party, submitted a memorandum to the Province Chief stating that none of the parties in the assembly currently had a majority. The memorandum has been signed by 41 members of the opposition alliance.
