By TRN Online, Kathmandu, July 16: The preliminary information provided by the team formed to investigate into the Melamchi tunnel accident revealed that the accident took place due to error in Knot bolt used to lock the door of the tunnel.
The team formed on coordination of Ramakant Dawadi, General Secretary of the Ministry of Water Supply, has started the field investigation from today.
The committee will be submitting the investigation report within seven days. Coordinator Dawadi said, "The accident has not caused significant damages to the tunnel."
"The door had been tightened with 30 knot bolts," he added. "The knot bolt got slipped due to the water pressure, which unbolted the door."
In the sudden unbolting of the 17th door, one died, one went missing and two were injured.
