Kathmandu, Feb. 12: President Bidya Devi Bhandari said Tuesday that the government’s goal of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepalis” would not be materialised unless corruption prevailing in different forms was brought under control.
Addressing the 29th anniversary of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), President Bhandari said corruption did prevail in different forms and natures.
“Corruption will come under control if all the civil servants start working responsibly and in a dignified way,” President Bhandari said.
Speaking at the same event, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli said the government had no intention to control the constitutional bodies.
Refuting the accusation that the government had its upper hand in the recent moves of the CIAA, PM Oli said that the government had no intention to interfere in the functions of the constitutional bodies.”
"Some forces are trying to create confusion among the public on the issue. But we need to understand that such act will not increase anyone’s height,” he said.
He further asked the CIAA to play a prominent role to make Nepal a corruption-free country.
Chief Commissioner of the CIAA Nabin Kumar Ghimire asked people speak out against corruption and report the Commission about every single irregularity they came to know. “One will commit bigger crime by remaining silent in corruption cases,” he added.
In coming years, the CIAA would make further progress on corruption control, he said.
“The success rate will ultimately increase if corruption control is made a common agenda of all bodies,” he added.
At the function, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokhrel, Ministers, heads of constitutional bodies, secretaries and others were present.
