Kathmandu, Jan 12: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has demanded the government to carry out fair investigation into the case of killing of environment conservation campaigner, Om Prakash Mahato (Dilip), and take action against the guilty.
Mahato was crushed to death by a tipper at Aurahi rivulet on January 10 for raising voice against illegal extraction of pebbles, sand and stones.
Issuing a press release on Sunday, the NHRC says, "The NHRC draws the attention of the government to take action against the guilty after carrying out fair and effective investigation into the case and compensation to the victim."
NHRC Chair Anupraj Sharma said that the NHRC has been closely carrying out monitoring on its legal process as the incident was very sad.
State 2 office of the NHRC has already headed towards the incident site for monitoring and investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, a team of environment conservation campaigners submitted a memorandum to NHRC chair Sharma, demanding action against the guilty of Dhanusha incident.
