By TRN Online, Kathmandu, May 21: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that it was imperative to begin the procedure for the formation of a new majority government.
Speaking at a press meet organised at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar, he said the formation of a new government as per Article 76 (5) was essential in the present political scenario.
"Budget must be tabled on May 29 and before that, the government's policy and programme for the upcoming fiscal year must be revealed. Thus, a new majority government is needed," said the Prime Minister.
He added that the newly formed government did not have the time to obtain the vote of confidence from the parliament. "As we have to abide by Article 75 (6) of the Constitution, it is not only appropriate but essential to pave the way for an alternative government," he said.
He clarified that the decision to call for the formation of a majority government was not a conspiracy. "The political parties are capable of creating a majority government within 24 hours by an forming alliance as no party holds a majority. I am ready to welcome an alternative government," the Prime Minister said.
