Kathmandu, Aug. 6: At a time when the number of COVID-19 cases is increasing day by day, the government is going to celebrate ‘Vaccination Week’.
During a meeting of the Education and Health Committee under the House of Representatives (HoR), Minister of State for Health and Population, Umesh Shrestha said that Nepal would celebrate the vaccination week beginning from August 9.
State Minister Shrestha also said that the country would receive 10.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines by mid-October.
On the occasion, State Minister Shrestha stated that Nepal is soon to receive 800,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Japan and 300,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines from Bhutan.
For the weeklong vaccination campaign, Kathmandu will have 150 COVID-19 vaccination centers, Lalitpur 77 and Bhaktapur 38, according to Shrestha.
The Ministry of Health and Population is launching a nation-wide facemask drive from August 7 to 13.
As the violation’ of the health safety protocols against COVID-19 is going on despite its growing risk, the people will be made aware about the proper use and benefit of wearing a facemask, informed deputy spokesperson at the MoHP Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari.
The slogan for the campaign is “My commitment to prevent and control the pandemic; the need of the day is to wear a facemask”.
Dr. Adhikari urged one and all to properly wear facemasks to remain safe and help control the infection.
“Adherence to health protocols and proper use of facemasks and sanitisers play vital role equivalent to COVID-19 vaccines in controlling the infection. There is a need to make all people aware about the role of facemasks in controlling the spread the virus,” said Dr. Adhikari.
