Kathmandu, Dec 10 : Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said Nepal government got support and assistance from friendly countries, international agencies and communities in the post-quake rescue, rehabilitation and reconstruction activities.
In his address to the International Conference on Nepal's Post-Quake Reconstruction on Thursday, PM Deuba viewed the post-quake reconstruction also contributed to Nepal's economy. "Nepal has been successful in post-quake recovery," he argued, adding that after six years of the devastating earthquake, Nepal has nearly finalized the reconstruction and rehabilitation.
PM Deuba further said, "We've learnt lessons on adaptation and resilience building."
On the occasion, former deputy prime minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel, congratulated National Reconstruction Authority for successfully accomplishing the reconstruction activities. He also lauded the role of international community to build back Nepal from Gorkha Earthquake, 2015.
Chief Executive Officer at NRA, Sushil Gyawali, said the international conference was an opportunity to exchange positive practices and experiences. He believed that the experience gained from reconstruction activities would be useful not only to future generation in Nepal but also to the international community.
Similarly, Chairperson of Nepal Municipalities' Association, Ashok Byanju, stressed the need for empowering the local levels to cope with disaster risk effectively.
International representatives including Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, first secretary at Indian Embassy in Nepal, Country Director of ADB, Chief Representative of JICA, Nepal Mission Director of USAID, Vice Chair of World Bank, Deputy Director of UNDP addressed the conference and expressed commitment to support Nepal in disaster management.
The conference was inaugurated by President Bidya Devi Bhandari. Various 20 thematic sessions were conducted as part of the vent.
