Kathmandu, Aug. 15:
President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba sent separate messages of felicitations to Dr. Arif Alvi, President, and Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, respectively on the occasion of the 75th Independence Day of the south Asian neighbour.
In their messages, President Bhandari and PM Deuba extended best wishes for the peace, progress and prosperity of Pakistan, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Saturday.
They also expressed confidence that the friendly relations existing between Nepal and Pakistan would continue to grow in the days ahead.
Meanwhile, speakers at a function organised to mark the 75th Independence Day of Pakistan here Saturday said Nepal
and Pakistan have been enjoying excellent ties since both the nations established their diplomatic relations in 1960.
Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun graced the programme organised by Nepal-Pakistan Friendship and Cultural Association (NPFCA).
Association president Himalaya Shumsher Rana said that Nepal had diplomatic relationship with some 170 countries and her relationship with Pakistan at government-to-government and people-to-people level had been very cordial with no strings attached.
Adnan J. Khan, Charge d’ Affairs of Pakistan embassy, said that his nation held Pakistan-Nepal relations with high regard. “Our ancestors had made great sacrifices to achieve the independence of our motherland,” added Khan. NPFCA general secretary Manju Ratna Sakya said that his organisation had been involved in boosting Nepal-Pakistan ties at the people-to-people level. He informed that the Association had been annually organising free medical camps targeting the poor, needy, the disabled and senior citizens in Kathmandu and Kavrepalanchowk districts.
The people from different walks of life including political leaders, diplomats, media persons and members of business community attended the function by following health safety rules.
