Kathmandu, Mar. 4: Foreign Employment Board (FEB) of Nepal has signed a memorandum of collaboration with Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) of Malaysia for the promotion of social security programmes and activities for insured Nepali workers in Malaysia.
The agreement was signed two weeks ago by FEB's Executive Director Rajan Prasad Shrestha and SOCSO's Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohammad Ajman Bin Dato Ajiz Mohammad in Kathmandu and Kuala Lumpur.
Cabinet of Nepal's government had given approval for the agreement.
According to SOCSO, about 300,000 Nepali workers are registered under the organisation. From January 1, 2019, every employer in Malaysia should be registered every foreign employee to the organisation, said the Embassy of Nepal in Kuala Lumpur.
Workers registered to the SOCSO have to pay 1.25 per cent of their salary to it and they can involve in Employment Injury Scheme for Foreign Worker which provides compensation for the work place injuries and diseases.
"This scheme offers medical benefit, temporary disability benefit, permanent disability benefit, dependants' benefit, constant attendance allowance, funeral benefit and rehabilitation facilities," said the embassy.
Workers, if injured during the work or on the way to or from work, can get free treatment facility at SOCSO affiliated panel clinic, government clinic and hospitals. It provides funeral cost to the worker's family if the last rites are to be performed in Malaysia while temporary or permanent disability benefits are provided to the family of the worker.
If the worker is unable to earn due to accident, he/she will get 90 per cent of the daily salary.
