Kathmandu, Aug 1: Nepal and China are entering the 65th year of the establishment of its diplomatic relations on Saturday.
Both the countries have been maintaining cordial relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1955.
During the last 65 years, political mutual trust between the two neighbouring countries has been continuously consolidated and cooperation in various fields has been deepened. At the same time, people-to-people exchanges have also been strengthened.
Nepal has supported the One China Policy and has been very active in conducting social, cultural and economic exchanges with China.
The bilateral relations between the two countries have reached newer heights after the signing of historic Transport and Transit Agreement in 2016 that transformed Nepal’s status of a land-locked country to a land-linked one.
The Protocol on Implementing Agreement on Transit and Transport in April 2019, which provides Nepal with access to seven Chinese sea and land ports for third-country trade.
The bilateral relation between Nepal and China has entered a new era after Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Nepal last year, after a gap of 23 years.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari also paid her visit to China in March 2019.
During the visits of the presidents, agreements on development cooperation, trade, investment, industrial development, transit transport, agriculture, and railway and border cooperation were signed.
In her recent interview with The Rising Nepal, China’s Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi said like said by President Xi during his state visit to Nepal, China will assist Nepal in transforming itself from a land-locked country to land-linked one by developing Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network.
She further said that the friendship between China and Nepal is true gold and has withstood the tests of time and the changing situations.
Dr. Upendra Gautam, China affairs expert, said Nepal and China enjoy the diplomatic relations that mutually support each other’s sovereign core interests fairly and equally.
He said the both sides have agreed to respect each other’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and respect each other’s concerns and core interests.
Gautam further highlighted the need connecting both the countries through the means of science, technology, transportation and expertise to further deepen the peoples to people relation.
He further added that the media must play an executive role to further deepen the diplomatic relationship between Nepal and other countries, including China.
He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should set up a new mechanism to regularly monitor and study major countries policy on Nepal.
