Kathmandu, Dec. 2: Provincial convention of Nepali Congress, a part of the party’s 14th general convention, is opening from Thursday. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is scheduled to inaugurate the convention.
NC spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma informed that Prime Minister and party president Sher Bahadur Deuba will virtually inaugurate the general convention of the party’s seven provincial committees simultaneously at 2 pm on Thursday.
The NC general convention publicity committee has arranged all technical works for the inauguration.
Meanwhile, the Central Election Committee of the party has scheduled the General Convention of 16 districts only after the party’s 14th central general convention that begins on December 10.
General convention has concluded only in 61 districts as of Wednesday and it has not concluded in 16 districts because of internal disputes.
NC Central Election Committee coordinator Gopal Krishna Ghimire informed that the district level general convention in the remaining 16 districts would be held after the central general convention.
Meanwhile, Our Makawanpur Correspondent said that the 1st general convention of the NC Bagmati Province will kick off from Thursday in the provincial capital Hetauda. It is the first time the party is holding the provincial general convention after the country went to federal set-up.
NC Makawanpur district committee shouldered the responsibility of accommodation of the representatives for the provincial convention.
General Convention secretariat coordinator and NC Makawanpur spokesperson Pradeep Koirala informed that the general convention is being held at Forest Science Study Corporation in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City, Ward No.10.
NC leader Prakash Man Singh, joint general secretary Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, leaders Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat, Arjun Narasingh KC, Mahalaxmi Dina Upadhaya, Gagan Thapa and others will be the guest speakers at the inauguration.
The general convention will elect Provincial Committee office-bearers and members.The NC statute provisioned one president, two vice-presidents, two general secretaries and three joint general secretaries with one woman in its provincial committee of the party. However, one treasurer will be nominated.
Meanwhile, lawmaker Prakash Rasaili Snehi has announced his candidacy for the party Central Working Committee member under Dalit category.
Organising a press meet in Kathmandu on Wednesday, he said he would raise the agendas of making the constitution and party statute more inclusive and the rights of youth, landless people, workers and other section of society.
He said he was contesting the election from the rival faction led by senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel.
