Kathmandu, July 13: The total number of active members of the Nepali Congress (NC) has reached 850,000. The party aims to expand its active membership to one million for the 14th general convention, scheduled for September 1- 4.
NC Active Membership Probe Committee spokesperson Pradip Paudel informed The Rising Nepal on Sunday that of the 850,000 active members, 445,000 were newly added while the rest were renewed.
The committee said it finalised active membership issue in 108 constituencies of the House of Representatives of 57 districts out of 165 constituencies of 77 districts. It also said that membership of other seven districts was partially finalised.
The committee has instructed to finalise active membership by mid-July. “We will end our task by mid-July,” said Paudel.
Active membership of NC forms the foundation of the party general convention as its lower committee general convention is scheduled from July 27.
The party had formed the committee under the leadership of leader Ramesh Lekhak comprising Paudel, Ananda Dhungana, Jeevan Pariyar, Shyam Ghimire, Kalyan Kumar Gurung and Yogendra Choudhari to probe active membership row and sort it out.
The active members cast vote in the local level to elect party representatives, who will then elect representatives for the general convention.
