Kathmandu, Sept. 8: Two chairmen of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) - Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ - Monday agreed to hold the party’s Standing Committee (SC) meeting on Friday.
During a meeting held at the PM’s official residence in Baluwatar today morning, the two chairmen agreed to call the SC meeting for Friday, which was postponed earlier.
Taking to his personal Facebook account, PM’s press advisor Surya Thapa informed that chairmen duo PM Oli and Prachanda agreed to call the party Standing Committee meeting on September 11.
Chairman Prachanda reached Baluwatar at 10:00 am today to meet PM Oli, Ram Sharan Bajgain, PM’s media expert, said.
The Standing Committee meeting first called for July 28 was postponed indefinitely after the two chairs failed to reach a concrete agreement to resolve the intra-party differences.
It is said that the report submitted by the six-member taskforce formed to settle the intra-party dispute would be the major agenda of the SC meeting.
The taskforce had submitted a 16-point report to chairmen duo on August 22. The report is yet to be discussed in the Standing Committee meeting.
Chaiman Prachanda’s press advisor Bishnu Sapkota said the meeting focused on the report and its execution.
Earlier, the report was tabled at the Secretariat meeting for consultation on last Thursday.
However, some senior party leaders have demanded making some alterations in the report after holding discussions at the Standing Committee meeting.
Senior NCP leaders, including former prime ministers Jhala Nath Khanal and Madhav Kumar Nepal, have pointed out the need of making some amendments to the report.
Party Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha earlier informed that a final draft of the proposal would be prepared based on the suggestions made by the Standing Committee.
The party Secretariat will endorse the proposal after consultation. Once the report is endorsed by the party Secretariat, it will be tabled at the Standing Committee again for further discussions and it will approve the proposal.
