Kathmandu, July 19: An effort to forge consensus among the top brass of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) to sort out the latest intra-party feuds has failed once again.
A powerful nine-member Secretariat of NCP on Saturday held a meeting for the same but the party Chairmen duo, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, failed to forge a consensus due to their respective stances.
Chairman Prachanda has been demanding for resignation of PM Oli from the post of Prime Minister. PM Oli, on the other hand, has been stating that there is no justifiable ground to resign from the post.
Briefing the media after the meeting, Party Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha said during the meeting the Secretariat members have agreed to resolve the issues through consensus.
He said today’s meeting was focused on the discussion to address and resolve the party’s internal crisis through consensus which can also address the needs of the nation.
Shrestha said the meeting concluded with a decision to hold further discussions to iron out the intra-party differences.
“The chairmen duo and senior leaders of the party have been doing homework to sort out the intra-party feuds and the Secretariat will hold further discussions to iron out the differences by keeping the party unity intact,” said Shrestha.
He added that the party top brass would continue the discussions to reconcile the intra-party feud by safeguarding and strengthening the party unity, addressing the need of the society and by respecting people’s mandate.

Spokesperson Shrestha further added that the Standing Committee meeting which was scheduled for Sunday afternoon would take place at the given time.
The Standing Committee meeting of the party is scheduled to take place at 3:00 pm on Sunday.
When asked if the issue of PM Oli’s resignation from the post of PM was raised or not in today’s meeting, Shrestha said in the previous meetings senior leaders and Standing Committee members had raised various issues to sort out the intra-party disputes.
“But these issues were neither formally tabled for the discussion nor formally proposed in the meeting,” he clarified.
Answering the queries of the media personnel about the central committee meeting, Shrestha said the meeting has not decided to call the central committee meeting.
The Secretariat meeting has been called after the top brass of the party couldn’t reach a consensus despite sitting for talks a number of times.
On Friday, PM Oli and Prachanda had agreed to take the intra-party wrangling to the Secretariat meeting after a series of one-an-one meeting of the two chairmen failed to make headway.
By putting off the Standing Committee meeting scheduled for Friday, the party has called the Secretariat meeting to resolve the ongoing intra-party feud.
The Standing Committee meeting was postponed until Sunday to give the party top brass time for more talks to end infighting in the party.
