Kathmandu, Dec. 17: The Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has decided to withdraw the ordinance issued on Tuesday to make the first amendment to the Constitution Council Act (Functions, Duties, Powers and Procedures).
The SC meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday decided to withdraw the ordinance which was issued by the President on Tuesday.
According to the NCP Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the SC meeting unanimously decided to withdraw the ordinance.
The meeting has also agreed to withdraw the application forwarded by NCP lawmakers to summon a special session of the Federal Parliament at the earliest, he added.
Earlier on Wednesday, around 80 NCP lawmakers had demanded in written with President Bidya Devi Bhandari to summon the House Session at the earliest.
According to Shrestha, chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli also informed the meeting that the Constitutional Council meeting held on Tuesday did not take any decision regarding the appointments in the constitutional bodies.
Spokesperson Shrestha further informed that the meeting concluded in an agreement to hold the SC meeting again on December 20 and the Central Committee meeting on December 25.
The meeting today was attended by party chairman Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli after holding a separate meeting with another chair -- Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
After the meeting the two leaders, Prime Minister Oli agreed to attend the meeting.
The crisis deepened in the NCP after chairman Prachanda presented a 19-page political proposal at the Secretariat meeting on November 13, which was full of allegations against PM Oli and the government.
Similarly, PM Oli presented a 38-page political document on November 28 rejecting all the allegations made by Prachanda.
Following this, war of words was heated up between the two factions of the party.
PM Oli has been demanding withdrawal of Prachanda’s proposal citing that his proposal was merely an allegation paper. PM Oli has proposed Prachanda to prepare a separate joint political report instead.
Meanwhile, three writs were registered at the Supreme Court against the ordinance on Wednesday.
