Kathmandu, Apr. 8: The main opposition party in the parliament Monday expressed its commitment that it would fully support the government in its fight against coronavirus.
A meeting of the office-bearers of the party held at the Budanilkantha-based residence of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, however, concluded that the government failed to make necessary preparations to fight against the crisis even though it got enough time.
After the meeting, NC spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma informed that the Nepali Congress would help the government on the humanitarian ground.

The party urged the government to expand the testing as the COVID-19 entered the second phase in the country.
Sharma informed that the meeting also urged the government to manage PPEs, ventilators, testing kits and other necessary materials as soon as possible.
"The NC decided to exert pressure on the government to widen the testing massively and manage necessary materials at the earliest," he said.
Sharma said the meeting decided that the party would cooperate with the government as far as possible in the crisis by pointing its weaknesses.
The meeting also urged all the health workers to continue their work and the government to provide essential materials to the health workers.
The party also urged one and all to stand against COVID-19 and support the lockdown which was imposed to avert a big crisis.
The main opposition party demanded probe and action against the officials involved in corruption while purchasing medicines and health materials during the COVID-19 fear.
Sharma said the party was serious about the health workers’ statement that the purchased materials were not useful.
The party also pressed the government to bring all the Nepalis stranded along Nepal-India border home and keep them in quarantine.
The meeting demanded that relief packages should be provided to the daily wage workers and the students living in the rented rooms.
It also demanded reduction in the bank interest rates.
The meeting decided to form an expert team to solicit suggestions on ways to control coronavirus.
