Kathmandu, Aug. 25: The Nepali Congress has entrusted responsibility to various leaders to implement the decisions relating to the party’s active membership.
Leaders Ananda Prasad Dhungana, Jeevan Ghimire, Shyam Ghimire, Pradeep Paudel, Jeevan Pariyar and Yogendra Chaudhary were shouldered the responsibility for Province 1 and 2, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim respectively.

The Active Membership Problem Resolution Task Force led by former general secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula had recommended shouldering the responsibility to the leaders.
Party joint general secretary Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat informed that the party was now preparing to hold the 14th general convention after it resolved the active membership row.

The party is preparing to hand over the list of the party active members to the party’s Central Election Committee and the Committee will forward the general convention process, he said.
The party has formed a five-member Election Committee in coordination of senior advocate Mahadev Yadav.
Yadav said his committee had already started its task.

The Election Committee said it would not change the list of the active members prepared by the Active Membership Probe Committee. However, it would add the names of the persons elected to the House of Representatives, National Assembly, Provincial Assemblies and Local levels from party if they were not given the membership.

The Probe Committee had recommended the party to give membership only after the 14th general convention following a due process to 116 persons of Bara and 515 of Solukhumbu districts
It also recommended same for Saptari House of Representative constituency 1, 2 and 4 as well as Bara House of Representative constituency 1 and 4. But the party will take necessary decision over Dhanusa HOR constituency 4 and Sarlahi 2 by August 28.

The Probe Committee recommended deleting the names from the list if the names were changed by the district. The party also said it would provide membership or renew membership of the persons whose names were not included in the previous list seeking proof that the persons were not rebel candidates or supporters of the rebel candidates.

Meanwhile, NC district presidents loyal to NC senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel faction on Tuesday staged a protest at the NC Central Office Sanepa of Lalitpur demanding that the list of active members be made public.
Taking note of the protest, NC president and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had instructed to make the list of the active members public, said NC spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma.
