Ilam, Mar. 11 : The local administration of the Ilam Municiapality has begun taking photos for the distribution of the national identity cards in Ilam, according to the District Administration Office (DAO).

According to Numa Karki, Ilam district supervisor for the card, residents of the 12 wards of the municipality are having their details, including photos, collected for the card. She informed that four teams had been mobilised in each ward for that purpose.

“We have continued our work even during holidays and the details of at least 120 people are being collected from each ward,” Karki said, adding, “We aim to take the photos of every Nepali citizen in Ilam within the next two months.”

However, Karki shared that intermittent power outages and low-voltage supply in the wards had been disrupting their work.

Hari Thapa, DAO administrative officer, informed that while the administration had begun taking photos from July 29, 2020, it had only recently started moving forward by launching the campaign.

Supervisor Karki mentioned that people applying for the national identity card were required to submit a copy of their citizenship, citizenship of their parents and the marriage registration certificate if they were married.

“We have asked for these proofs to ensure there is no error in the details provided by the individuals,” she said.

“Since the government will make the National ID Card mandatory for various services, any error might cause problems in the future. We want to avoid this.”
