Kathmandu, Feb. 18: The winners of the national-level poetry and essay competition organized by the Ministry for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Nepal Academy on the occasion of the 72nd National Democracy Day-2078 BS have been awarded.
Academy's Chancellor Ganga Prasad Uprety gave away the awards to the winners-Ten Rai (Khotang), Basudev Pandey 'Prabhakar', Sabita Baral (Taplejung) who stood first, second and third respectively in the poetry competition.
Similarly, Govinda Prasad Khatiwada (Tanahu), Rejina Aapgain (Tehrathum) and Ganesh Dangal (Kathmandu) came first, second and third respectively in the essay competition. Both the poetry and essay competitions were held under the patriotic theme.
Those who secured first position (in both categories) received Rs 50,000 each while Rs 40,000 each were awarded to those coming second in the competition. Likewise, cash prizes for those securing third positions received Rs 30,000 each, informed Academy's member-secretary Prof Jagat Prasad Upadhyay.
The winners, on the occasion, recited poetry and read aloud the essays for which they were awarded.
