Kathmandu, Dec. 29: A visiting team of Bangladeshi lawmakers on Sunday met National Assembly (NA) chair Ganesh Prasad Timalsina at the latter’s office in Singha Durbar.
A team of lawmakers led by Manoranjan Seel Gopal (chair of Dalits and minority committee) had met NA chair Timalsina in his chamber today.
The team is on a visit to Nepal to study the parliamentary practice and the representation of Dalits, indigenous and minorities in Nepali parliament.
NA chair Timalsina during the meeting said that those communities were given special privilege in the Constitution. Timalsina said that all the communities from federal to state and local levels were ensured their rights.
“Our Constitution prohibits discrimination based on caste, religion, language, community, geography and others,” he added.
The NA chair stated that there were several similarities between Nepal and Bangladesh and suggested Bangladeshi lawmakers to learn about the lifestyle, development and the status of Dalits and indigenous people from Nepal. He also highlighted importance of mutual cooperation in education, health, trade, hydro power and agriculture sector.
“The mutual relations need to strengthen among people to people,” Timalsina said. He also invited Bangladeshi people to take part in Visit Nepal Year 2020.
Similarly, Manoranjan Seel, leader of visiting Bangladeshi team, appreciated Nepal for ensuring rights to all communities. According to him legal provisions for the dalits and indigenous people in Nepal were exemplary.
“Our government is committed to the welfare of indigenous and other communities in the country, we can learn many things from here,” he said.
