Kathmandu, Feb. 1: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Devendra Paudel has sought a plan for university reform.
During a meeting with Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Dharma Kanta Baskota at the Ministry on Monday, Minister Paudel sought a plan to reform the TU.

"The ministry is planning to reform the university," he said, adding, “More than Rs. 100 billion is spent by students going abroad for medical education annually, so Kathmandu University and Tribhuvan University have a role to play to stop it by creating an environment for students to study within Nepal.”

Minister Paudel said that the ministry would not interfere in the university to maintain quality education there.
Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Baskota added that the physical infrastructure of the university should be improved and be made technology-friendly, and that research should be given priority and provision of academic character should be followed strictly to deliver quality education.

Dr. Baskota submitted 15-point reform plan, which includes comprehensive reform and decentralisation in the examination system, market-oriented, self-employed manpower production as per the requirements of the country, effective regulation of affiliated colleges, internationalisation of higher education and emphasis on good governance.

He complained that university's education had been hit hard from protests of different organisations on political grounds time and again and that the government had to pay attention to the safety of the universities.
He also lamented that the students still had to study in red sticker-tagged building damaged by 2015 earthquake.
