Kathmandu, Mar. 24: Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali Monday acquired information about the Nepali migrant workers working in the Middle East and Africa and the effect of COVID-19 in those countries as well as Nepali migrant workers.
Minister Gyawali, through a video conference with the chiefs of Nepali Missions of the concerned countries, acquired information about the effect of coronavirus on the economy of the countries where Nepali migrant workers are and the employment of Nepali nationals and other issues.
On the occasion the chiefs of the Nepali missions apprised Minister Gyawali of the condition of the COVID-19 infection in the Middle East and African nations, steps taken by the concerned government to tackle the pandemic, condition of Nepali migrant workers and the regular and emergency services being provided by the Nepali embassies to Nepali nationals during the video conference.
Minister Gyawali also informed the chiefs of the Missions about the measures taken by the government to control COVID-19 in Nepal. He also asked the Mission chiefs to update the Ministry about COVID-infection in the countries they are stationed and work in coordination with the employer companies and government on issues related to health, security and employment of Nepali nationals there.
The Minister also instructed the Missions to adopt all preventive
measures to protect the Nepali nationals and their families from the COVID-19 infection.
During the video conference, Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Minister Rameshwor Raya Yadav, Foreign Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi and Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security Binod KC were also present.
