Kathmandu, Mar. 8: Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand Monday said that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) has been endorsed from the House of Representatives for the prosperity and development of the country.
Inaugurating the 12th convention of Nepal Civil Servant Employees Organisation under the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Ministry, Minister Khand claimed that no foreign military force will come to Nepal just in the wake of passing the MCC.
“The MCC has been passed for the prosperity and development of the country, and just by endorsing the MCC, no foreign military force can come to Nepal as what has been rumoured,” Minister Khand said.
The MCC is for the development of electricity infrastructure, poverty alleviation, and development of other physical infrastructure including road connectivity, the Home Minister said.
A large chunk of financial assistance provided under the MCC will be spent in the expansion of the transmission line of the NEA and some of it for road infrastructure development, he said.
“The transmission line is for the supply of power and through this electricity will come and can be supplied but military force will not come because of this project,” he said.MCC has been passed from the parliament to strengthen nationalism.
MCC is for the consumption and supply of additional power generated by the country to other countries, and for this upgradation of transmission line is necessary and this will be possible only under the grant of MCC, Minister Khand explained.
After the endorsement of the MCC, it will help in maintaining international credibility of the country and win the international donors’ trust, Minister Khand said.Saying that MCC is purely a grant-based project but not a loan to the country, Minister Khand said, no foreign manpower required for the project will arrive from the US and this was just a rumour flared among the Nepalis.
Any of the Nepali contractor and bidder can apply for the tender process to work in the project. International tender bid will also be called for taking the project’s work ahead, he said. The final auditing of the overall expenses of the project will be done by the Office of Auditor General of Nepal, thus nobody can cast any doubt about its transparency, Minister Khand said.
In a separate context, Minister Khand said that the government was also positive in managing appropriate salaries to the government employees on par with their ranks and skills. Because of the lack of resources and infrastructure, the government has been unable to do so, he said. The government is thinking of increasing the facilities of the employees if the government resources also increase, he said.
