Darchula, June 23: Majority of the rural roads of the district have remained disrupted due to the landslide triggered by incessant rainfall.
The monsoon-triggered landslides hit most of the unpaved roads including Gokule-Khar-Khalanga road section, Gokuleshwor-Lali road section, Darchula-Tinkar and Bitule-Paribagar road section, bringing the traffic to a grinding halt.
The fair weather roads connecting various local levels of the district have turned muddy after the incessant rainfall.
Transport entrepreneurs said that all the roads constructed in the current fiscal year had been closed after landslides.
Jeep operator Ganesh Dhami said the vehicular movement had been completely halted in Gokuleshwor-Rithachowpata road-section for the past two weeks.
Santosh Thagunna, a local, said due to landslide, Gokuleshwar-Dethala-Dhuligada-Dallekh-Khalangamm road, and provincial pride project connecting the district headquarters Khalanga has been blocked in various sections.
After the traffic comes to a complete halt, villages in Darchula are facing food shortage and shortage of construction materials.
Jagdish Joshi, a local of Lekam, complained that businessmen and passengers were hard hit after the traffic came to a complete halt.
Since the majority of the roads connecting the rural areas are unpaved there is always a risk of landslides during the monsoon.
“Passengers, vegetable sellers, farmers, traders and consumers are in trouble because of the dire condition of the roads,” Joshi said, adding, “Even the settlements located by the roadside are at risk of landslides.”
