Chitwan, May 15 : Mobility of people has reduced to zero with the local administration further tightening lockdown following increasing coronavirus cases.
Only vehicles in emergency and carrying essentials are allowed to ply as the security bodies including Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have tightened security checks in every nooks and corners across the district. Fire engines, ambulances, hearses and vehicles carrying health workers, journalists, daily essentials, medicines and dairy consumable stuffs are allowed to operate.
A State Assembly member travelling without a vehicle pass defying lockdown had to return from the Narayani bridge, said Ishwor Simkhada, information officer at the District Administration Office, Chitwan. "None is allowed for rampant mobility amidst lockdown except those in emergency service," he said.
Banks are allowed to operate following safety measures, said assistant chief district officer Netra Sharma. Thirty eight vehicles without pass and 15 people travelling defying lockdown faced action on Thursday alone, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Ek Narayan Koirala. So far since lockdown orders enforced, 1,188 vehicles faced action in the district.
Meanwhile, the local administration has handed down one month imprisonment to Jamana Gurung, manager of Bhatbhateni Super Market Bharatpur branch for promoting black-marketing by selling products overpriced. The administration has also fined the supermarket Rs 1,000. In course of monitoring by the administration acting on complaints by consumers, the supermarket was found to have sold vegetables overpriced, said Simkhada.
Likewise, Poudel bookstore at Ratnagar faced a month imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 for selling books overpriced.
Two fruits shops (Kathmandu fruit and Acharya fruit shops) in Narayangadh were fined Rs 25,000 each for selling fruits at high price.
