Rajbiraj/ Udayapur/Makwanpur, June 26: Seven people died and four others sustained injuries in different places of the country on Thursday morning when they were struck by lightning.
Four of them were killed in two separate places of Saptari district alone.
Lightning took the lives of two people at Mahadeva Gaunpalika and two others at Rajgadh Gaunapalika and Dakneshwori Municipality of Saptari, according to the District Police Office (DPO).
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson at the DPO Tilak Bharati, the deceased have been identified as 27-year-old Bechan Yadav and 60-year-old Chheti Thakur of Mahadeva Gaunpalika-2. They were hit by the lightning while they were on the bank of the Saptakoshi River.
Similarly, Lalita Devi Yadav, 30, of Dakneshwori Municipality, was hit by the lightning while she was heading towards her paddy field. Keshi Sah, 46, of Rajgadh Gaunpalika-2 was also struck while he was on the way to his paddy field.
Sah died while he was being rushed to Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital, Rajbiraj, police said.
Asha Mandal, 18, of Belhi Chapena of Rajgadh Gaunpalika was injured by the lightning while she was working at her home. She is receiving treatment at Gajendra Narayan Hospital.
Meanwhile, in Udyapur one person died and two others were injured after being struck by the lightning. The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Kanan Chaudhary of Triyuga Municipality-13.
Critically injured Chaudhary breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the District Hospital, Udayapur, according to Superintendent of Police, Bhim Bahadur Dahal.
In the same incident, 31-year-old Anita Khadka of Bhantikharka village of Triyuga Municipality, and Tirtha Maya Magar, 61, of Jogipakha village of the same municipality, were injured.
Similarly, six pigs were killed after lightning struck a pig sty owned by Mindra Bahadur Magar. Magar suffered a loss of around Rs. 70,000 from the incident, according to the police.
Also, in Makwanpur, two women were killed and one was injured when a lightning struck them amid continuous rains on Thursday morning.
The deceased are identified as Samjhana Ghising, 17, of Bakaiya Gaunpalika-2 and
Bina Ghising, 25. Lightning struck Samjhana while she was staying at her home. Bina breathed her last while undergoing treatment at a local Dovan Health Clinic, said DSP Indra Bahadur Rana.
Also, 14-year-old son of Purna Bahadur Jimba, Kiran was injured in the lightning. He is also undergoing treatment at Dovan Health Clinic.
