Kathmandu, Feb. 18: With a sudden change in weather due to influence of the westerly wind, the Kathmandu Valley and some mountain and high Himalayan regions in the eastern, central and western Nepal witnessed light rains and snowfalls on Wednesday.
The Kathmandu Valley also recorded rainfall this afternoon and this phenomena is likely to continue even on Thursday, according to meteorologist Ganga Nagarkoti at the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD).
Some eastern mountains and hills also witnessed rains and snowfalls today and the same influence is noticed in the central and western Nepal, Meteorologist Nagarkoti said.
The weather in the eastern, central and western Terai region is normal and generally fair, according to her, and that will be completely clear from Friday.
"Winter rains normally do not last long and even don't fall heavily; they are intermittent in nature," Nagarkoti said.
In the last 24 hours, Pokhara in Gandaki Province and Taplejung in Province No. 1 recorded
6.8 mm and 4.5 mm rainfalls respectively. Meanwhile, in the hilly and mountain regions of Taplejung, heavy snowfall and rainfalls affected normal life since Tuesday evening.
According to locals, rains and snowfalls had begun from Tuesday evening in Ghunsa, Fale, Gabla of Lelep in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-6. They said that people living in Olangchungola and Yangma had been affected the most.
Local Kesang Sherpa said that life in Ghunsa has been affected due to the accumulation of more than one foot of snow.
Sherpa said that people have problems in walking due to snow and cold.
According to Tenzing Walung, a local from Olangchunggola, heavy snow has also fallen in Gola and Yangma.
Similarly, heavy snowfall has been reported in the Pathibhara temple area at an altitude of 3,794 metres.
According to Rajendra Mahat, a local businessman of Phedi Bazaar, heavy snow has fallen from Phedi to the temple.
Farmers of the district expressed their happiness following the snow and rain.
