Lidi Landslide: 33 bodies recovered, displaced victims to be shifted

By Chitra Mijar, Sindhupalchowk, Aug. 23: The Police have recovered dead bodies of 33 persons out of 39 who had gone missing in the Lidi landslide in Jugal Rural Municipality-2.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madhav Prasad Kafle of the Sindhupalchowk District Police Office said that the search operation for the remaining six missing persons was going on.

Meanwhile, according to RSS, those displaced in the Lidi landslide are being relocated to Banskhark, Selang of Jugal Rural Municipality-1.

Homnarayan Shrestha, Chairman of the Jugal Rural Municipality, said, “Preparations are underway to shift the displaced locals. The tents to shelter the landslide victims and other essential supplies have already reached the village.”

The District Disaster Management Committee had handed over 98 tents to the Rural Municipality on Saturday. Likewise, the Rural Municipality office is managing the land, camp and road infrastructures where the displaced people are being shifted.

The District Project Implementation Unit will manage the settlement; the Division Drinking Water Office will provide drinking water and the District Health Office will provide health services to the landslide victims in the relocation site.

A team including Suresh Nepal, State Assembly member and former parliamentarian Subash Karmacharya had visited the landslide area and discussed with the affected locals as of Saturday.

Shrestha said that the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police were mobilised to set up the tents and shift the displaced victims.
