Tanahun/Sindhupalchowk/ Syangja, July 14: Eleven people were killed in landslides triggered by torrential rainfall in three different villages in Tanahun district Sunday night.
They were buried to death in landslides in Byas Municipality, Rishing and Myagde Gaunpalikas.
Superintendent of Police Arun Poudel said that 40-year-old Kamala Thapa, 24-year-old Manoj Thapa, Anjana Thapa, 21, Rajesh Thapa, 20, and Maiti Kumari Gharti, 60, were killed in the landslide of Byas Municipality,
Similarly, bodies of 28-year old Bhekh Bahadur Thapa, Mahadev Thapa, 22, Manishara Thapa, 20, Minimaya Thapa and five-year old Anisha Thapa were recovered from the debris, SP Poudel said.
Rajendra Krishna Shrestha, ward chairman of Rishing Gaunpalika, said that most of the deceased killed in the landslides in Byas Municipality and Rishing Gaunapaliaka were from the same families.
Also, 15-year old Laxmi B.K, of Myagde Gaunpalika-6 lost her life in a landslide.
Meanwhile, the Home Ministry reported a death in Myagdi district.
In Sindhupalchowk, the District Administration Office has expedited search operation of the people who were swept away by flashfloods in the Bhotekoshi and Yalmo Thando River five days ago.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madhav Kalfe, 17 people had still gone missing in Jambu flood and landslide

that occurred simultaneously on the night of July 9. Three people at Bulkute in Bhotekoshi Gaunpalika of the district were also missing.
A 27-member trained and professional search and rescue team has been mobilised in Jambu flood and landslide site in coordination of the Federation of Disaster Management, according to Kafle.
The Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and a rescue team from the District Disaster Management Committee have been in the field for their search, he said.
Local administration has also used excavator to search the missing bodies in the rubbles.
Meanwhile, in Syangja, vehicular movements along the major roads have come to a grinding halt because
of landslides. Many people of the landslide-prone areas have been relocated in safe places to avoid possible casualties and loss of properties.
According to Our Correspondent, the district has been witnessing continuous rainfall for the past four days.
An elderly Buddhi Ram Nepali, residing in a rented room at Putali Bazaar-11 near Siddhartha highway was critically injured when a landslide hit his room.
Some forty family members from five different households have directly been affected by the landslide that fell onto the human settlement area from the highway.
According to DSP Rajendra Adhikari, the affected family members have been shifted to a safer zone following the incident.
Likewise, 95 households of Madhya Nepal Municipality were displaced because of landslides. Six wards of the municipality were hit hard by landslides.
Similarly, a buffalo and three cows of Indra Prasad Pangeni of Arjunchaupari-6 of Bodikhola of the district died after the cowshed collapsed in torrential rainfall.
Farmer Pangeni claimed that property worth Rs. 680,000 was destroyed.
Similarly, a two-storey thatched house of Ludra Bahadur Rana at Harinash Gaunpalika-4 collapsed in a landslide. Two buffaloes were also killed in the incident, Rana said.
Ludra Bahadur’s eight family members were taking shelter at his relative Lil Bahadur Rana’s home.
Also, landslide cracked two-storey thatched house of Tul Bahadur Gurung of Biru Gaunpalika-8 of the district.
According to a traffic police, Siddhartha Highway has come into operation one-way after six hours.
