Kathmandu, Aug. 30: Nepalis across the nation will celebrate Krishana Janmashtami on Monday. On the occasion, the people take a bath early in the morning and visit the nearby Krishna Temple to offer worship.
Devotees also fast the whole day and perform worship of Lord Krishna before ending their fast after 12 midnight, the time regarded as the birth hour of Lord Krishna, who is regarded as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, one of the trinities of Hindu religion.
This festival is considered sacred all over the nation and is celebrated in different manner by various groups. On this day, many residents of the Kathmandu Valley visit the Krishna Temple in Patan to pay homage to Lord Krishna.
Like last year, the temple this year will also remain open for regular and other ritual ceremonies. But devotees will not be allowed to enter the temple for worship because of the fear of COVID-19 pandemic, said Pratap Dhar Sharma, priest of the Krishna Temple.
“The door of the temple will remain open this year but crowd will not be allowed on the temple premises,” he said. The area of Patan Durbar Square was totally sealed off last year after the crowd of devotees swelled.
Sharma said they were not yet informed about the visit of President Bidya Devi Bhandari to the temple.
The government, through a Cabinet meeting two weeks ago, decided to give a public holiday on Krishnajanmastami.
