Kathmandu, June 6: Inter-ministerial post-budget session kicked off in both the Houses of federal Parliament from Friday.
Lawmakers actively participated in the discussion on the annual budget allocation on different seven ministries of the government.
The lawmakers of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) appreciated the government for the budget allocated to different seven ministries, including the Ministry of Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Physical Infrastructure and Transportation, Urban Development, Drinking Water, Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation and Youths and Sports. But the lawmakers of opposition parties pointed the weaknesses of the allocation.
They also suggested the government to focus on better public delivery. “Focus on execution and prove the commitments of the government with loyalty towards people,” they said.
But the lawmakers of the opposition party expressed their
dissatisfaction over the allocation on various ministries.
Lawmaker Pushpa Bhusal Gautam of NC said that the allocation for the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens was not enough for the women in the country.
“It’s not women friendly. Generating opportunity and other aspects were not covered,” said Gautam, adding that women had fought for democracy as the males. But the dynamic aspects of gender were not addressed.
Alike Bhusal, other female lawmakers also expressed their disappointment over the budget allocation for the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens.
The youth lawmakers were also disappointed over the budget allocated in agriculture, physical infrastructure and transportation sector. “This is the suitable time for infrastructure development. But the allocation in the sector is not adequate,” they said.
Meanwhile, following the demand of the lawmakers to form probe parliamentary committee to investigate into Rukum-Jajarkot incident, Speaker of the House of Representatives Agni Prasad Sapkota committed to form probe committee.
According to Secretariat of the Parliament, the session will continue for two more days. Next session of House of Representatives is scheduled for Saturday morning and the National Assembly for Sunday.
