Kathmandu, Jan. 21: The government of India is providing one million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Nepal as a grant under the ‘VaccineMaitri’ programme.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Wednesday, Health Minister Hridayesh Tripathi shared that the government of India would provide one million doses of vaccines.
The joint press meet was organised by Health Minister Tripathi and Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, to inform about the vaccine support being provided by India. Minister Tripathi formally announced that the Indian government was providing one million doses of vaccine to Nepal under the ‘VaccineMaitri’ programme and that the vaccine would arrive in Kathmandu on Thursday.
He further said that the frontline workers would be the first to receive the vaccine. In the first phase, 3 per cent population will be inoculated which include the frontline workers, he added.
“All preparations for launching the vaccination drive have been completed,” said Tripathi. “We will procure additional doses of the vaccine soon.”
