Kathmandu, Nov 25: Kasthamandap, the wood-made shelter, originally built in the 7th century, is waiting for its inauguration after its reconstruction completed six years after the devastating 2015 earthquake.
The Kasthamandap Reconstruction Committee is now preparing for inauguration of the historical monument. It said it would fix the inauguration date soon.
Reconstruction work of the centuries-old resting place has almost completed and now it stands in its original shape and look.

The wooden three-storied shelter has got its final shape after the Jingati tiles were laid on its roof by using mud and a pinnacle was put on the top.
The major structural works of Kasthamandap have completed, said Gautam Dongol, secretary of the Kasthamandap Reconstruction Committee.
He further said the committee has not fixed the inauguration date of the rebuilt Kasthamandap.

The Kasthamandap Reconstruction Committee was formed on May 1, 2018 and it started reconstruction process from July, 2018.
In the last three years, it has brought about 9228.10 cubic feet of timbers in 24 installments. With the arrival of final installment of 427.65 cubic feet timbers, it is said to be sufficient to complete remaining minor wooden works.

The initial estimated budget of the committee was Rs. 120 million. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) had allocated Rs. 115 million to the committee in several installments. As of now, the committee estimates that the entire project structure will be completed with somewhere between Rs. 130 to Rs. 150 million.

The ground floor is divided into four layers where different wooden posts of different sizes are used in each layer.
Altogether 100 wooden pillars of four different sizes were used in the ground floor.  The Kasthmandap spreads in less than one ropani of land. The committee used old bricks, stones, wood and mud to rebuild the Kasthmandap.
