Kathmandu, Dec. 22: Senior leader of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has termed the recent move of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR) unconstitutional.
Talking with reporters before a meeting of lawmakers close to the faction of Nepal and the party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda at Baneshwor on Monday, senior leader Nepal said PM Oli took the unconstitutional decision after he fell into minority.
“Since the Prime Minister has no right to dissolve the parliament constitutionally, the House of Representatives is still in existence,” said Nepal.
Condemning the decision in strong words, parliamentarians close to Nepal and Prachanda have claimed that the unlawful decision would not be acceptable and they would reinstate the House of Representatives by adopting political and constitutional provisions, he said.
Signatures of 90 lawmakers of the House of Representatives and 24 from the National Assembly have already been collected against the government, said Nepal.
He also condemned the move of President Bidya Devi Bhandari to approve the Prime Minister’s decision.
NCP Vice-Chairman Bam Dev Gautam, however, did not attend the meeting.
Instead, he clarified that though he was against the move to dissolve the parliament, he would not take part in any factional gatherings to become the witness of party division.
Issuing a press statement today, Gautam said he would always stand for the party unity and would make all possible attempts to safeguard the party unity until the next decision.
Meanwhile, Prachanda called upon NCP leaders and cadres to stand united against all sorts of tendencies and elements that would weaken the party.
Issuing a press statement here today, Prachanda said that the NCP was united and no anti-party activities could make any meaningful impact on the party unity.
The statement further read that the anti-party activities of a couple of people could not dissolve the party structure and unity.
