Kathmandu, Mar. 28: Fagu Purnima, the festival of colours, is being celebrated on Sunday with fervour and gaiety across much of the hilly region of the country including Kathmandu Valley by smearing colours to each other and exchanging best wishes.
The festival, whose celebration begins with a Holika Dahan, or the death of demon Holika on its eve, marks victory of justice over injustice. People enjoy smearing red vermilion powder to one another on the occasion.
The festival will be celebrated on Monday in the Terai region. District Administration Office (DAO) of Kathmandu has requested the denizens to limit the celebrations to their families or to their own neighbourhoods by following precautionary measures in a bid to prevent coronavirus transmission. It has also urged everyone to not crowd the public places and to not walk in groups.
The festival, celebrated until the full moon day, started on Sunday after erecting a pole at Basantapur.
