Kathmandu, Dec. 9: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwar Pokhrel said on Monday that the present government was committed to end the corruption flourished in the political protection.
Addressing a function on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day organised by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Minister Pokhrel said that no one involved in corrupt practices would be spared. “Any person involved in corruption will be punished,” he said.
DPM Pokhrel urged the civil society and organisations to support the common goal of the government to make Nepal a corruption-free country.
“We all citizens have to discourage corruption and encourage honesty,” he added.
The government was committed to fulfilling its international responsibility as the country ratified the United Nations Convention against Corruption in 2003, he said.
He further said the country recently drafted the anti-corruption act and was working for its effective implementation.
The International Day against Corruption was marked with a slogan “Coordination against corruption: essential for governance” on Monday.
Speaking at the function, Nabin Kumar Ghimire, Chief Commissioner of the CIAA, said the commission achieved success in 88 per cent cases and largest number of corruption cases were relaed to local levels.
Khem Raj Regmi, chairperson of Transparency International, said the ratio of corruption had increased in local levels. Nepal ranks 124th in the country happening corruption. It was ranked 122nd in 2017.
Meanwhile, in another function organised by Transparency International on Sunday, comedians Madhan Krishna Shrestha and Haribansha Acharya were honoured with “National Virtue Award” of this year for their anti-corruption campaign through singing and acting.

Speaking at the function, Khilraj Regmi, former chairman of Council of Ministers, said corruption would not end from the country till the morally strong persons join the politics.

Prof. Dr. Krishna Khanal, political analyst, said the anomalies were highly increased after the country embraced liberal.
“Politicians must be moral, responsible and accountable to public to control corruption,” he said.
