Kathmandu, Apr. 14: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Monday said that the Nepalis were welcoming the New Year 2077 under a very difficult situation due to the onset of coronavirus penadmic.
Issuing a greeting on the occasion of the New Year, Prime Minister Oli said, “I wish you all a Happy New Year with heavy heart amid very uneasy situation as relatives of some Nepalis residing elsewhere have contracted COVID-19 while a few have lost their lives.”
In his greeting, he urged all Nepalis living at home and abroad to save their lives from the infection of coronavirus. “I wish who are infected will overcome it soon.”
Stating that the government was leading a ‘war’ against coronavirus in the country, he said the entire world including the Nepalis would get rid of the pandemic.
He sought the support and goodwill of all Nepalis and hoped the government would enjoy the continuous support of the entire population in the future as well. “We all know the government’s progress report of the past two years is encouraging. If Nepal was not reeling under the pandemic, today we might be discussing country’s economic growth,” he stated.
He also expressed his deep sorrow over the collapse of the government’s dream projects like Visit Nepal 2020 and Sagarmatha Sambad that were postponed in the wake of the pandemic.
PM Oli assured that the government would take the guardianship of the people from all walks of life affected by the coronavirus. “The first priority of the government is to save the lives from the pandemic and arrangement of bread and butter for them side by side,” he said. Premier Oli expressed confidence that the three tiers of government would effectively face this unusual situation by taking into consideration the suggestions of all stakeholders.
“The government will decide on what will be our policy against coronavirus pandemic based on the progress in coming two days. We will not let the supply system weaken in any situation,” he added. He also appealed to all to raise the morale of those who have been personally leading the difficult ‘war’ against coronavirus from the frontline.
“Let us further strengthen national unity and play positive roles to prevent the spread of coronavirus at the community level and further strengthen self-confidence of the people that even if there is contagion it can be defeated.”
