By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb. 4: A nationwide general strike called by the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Prachanda-Nepal faction has affected people's lives across the country with disruption in vehicle mobility and demonstrations at different places.
Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, Nepal Police Spokesperson, said that about 20 percent of the public transport vehicles were operating in the Kathmandu Valley till 9 am and about 80 people were arrested for trying to obstruct them.
He said that vehicles and trucks plying in Hetauda, Narayangadh, and other areas outside the capital were pelted with stones and a taxi was set with fire in Samakhushi of Kathmandu in the morning.
He said that police have been deployed to provide security to the public transport including microbuses in the Kathmandu Valley and only some public transport has come into operation today.
The group had announced a nationwide general strike today over issues including appointments to constitutional bodies.
