Kathmandu, Dec 8: Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokhrel has said along with the formulation of policies and programmes, their implementation aspect was of high significance to end violence against women.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen under the Year-Long Campaign against the Gender-based Violence (GBV)- 2076/77 here today, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed the need of connecting the people at the local level with government launched programmes aimed to promote gender parity.
The government was working to create an atmosphere for ensuring right of all to live with dignity by removing all sorts of discriminations including the GBV. He gave an idea of further boosting up a legal mechanism to end the GBV totally.
Every GBV case must be condemned no matter who commit it, he asserted.
Stating that the government was committed to the protection and rescue of survivor, he said the formal and sponsored efforts would not contribute to minimising violence.
Also speaking on the occasion, Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen, Parbat Gurung, shared in the gathering that the government had come up with an action plan to implement the Year against Gender-based Violence.
As he said, anti- GBV programmes are being implemented in every State.
"The government has prepared a draft of a 'decent menstruation policy' and there remains a plan of celebrating the Decent Menstruation Day from the upcoming year."
Ministry Secretary Chandra Prasad Ghimire echoed the need of launching a campaign right from home and community to combat violence against women while rights activist Radha Poudel insisted on effective enforcement of 'decent menstruation policy and completely banishing the Chhaupadhi practice.
