Syangja, Mar. 16: Gandaki State government has shown interest to upgrade the Galyang-Chapakot road, the oldest road in the district.
The State government has given priority to upgrading the road which has remained in poor condition for 27 years.
State Assembly member Bhagwat Prakash Malla said that Chapakot, known as Madesh of the district, has huge potential for agriculture. The 21-km road from Chapakot to Aadhighat was under the federal government earlier, but the State government has taken the responsibility for its maintenance since the last fiscal year, he added.
The road which connects Dulegauda has become a priority of the State government as it remains in a shabby condition for nearly three decades.
About one km of the road has been blacktopped at a cost of Rs. 10 million, which was allocated for the fiscal year 2075/76. Rs. 40 million has been allocated by the State government and Rs.10 million by the federal government for the upgrading of the road this fiscal year.
Since Chapakot is also the centre of Suntalitar Gaunpalika, the DPR of the road will be done within a few days.
According to Malla, about Rs. 250 million would be allocated in the upcoming fiscal year to blacktop the road up to Aadhighat.
The federal, state and local governments have taken the same plan separately and allocated the budget for the construction of the road, Malla said.
Chief at the Gandaki State Infrastructure Development Office Soviet Khadka said the Galyang-Chapakot road would open the door for greater employment potential if the construction of the road completed soon.
The lifestyle of the locals in Tanahun, Gulmi and Nawalpur districts, including Galyang, Chapakot Municipality, Rampur Municipality in Palpa, and those who live on the banks of Kali Gandaki would be changed after the construction of the road.
Construction of the Galyang-Chapakot road started in 1993 when Khum Bahadur Khadka was the Local Development Minister.
