Humla, Nov. 30: Helicopter has been used to transport food to the trans-Himalayan village of Limi in Humla district.
A Nepali Army helicopter that arrived in Humla from Kathmandu Sunday evening started transporting food to Limi from Hilsa and the district headquarters Simkot.

Lawmaker of Nepali Congress Rangamati Shahi said that the state had started supplying food grains to Limi in Namkha Rural Municipality- 6 which was reeling from food scarcity.
Despite the best efforts, the food grains could be supplied to Limi only after the management of helicopters, she said.

Along with the food grains, Shahi and Ward Chairman Paljor Tamang also reached Limi. Chief District Officer Ganesh Acharya said that 21 quintals of food grains were transported to Limi out of 34 quintals in Simkot.
He said the food was transported by a MI-17 helicopter of the Nepali Army.

Due to the high altitude, the helicopter carried only 11 quintals of food grains in one flight. He said that 48 quintals of food grains out of 460 quintals of flour and 20 sacks of rice in Hilsa were transported in four flights.
Food grains from Simkot and Hilsa were transported throughout the day on Monday.

He said that the helicopter would remain in Simkot on Monday and the remaining food would be transported on Tuesday. Ward chairman Tamang said that the food grains would be distributed as per the decision of the three villages.
He said that the food problem would be solved once the food grains reached Limi.

A 27-member team had reached Simkot from Limi after food problem in the area made headlines. Karnali Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, lawmakers Chhakka Bahadur Lama and Shahi and Chief District Officer Acharya have taken initiatives to supply the food.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will disburse funds from the rescue fund for the transportation of food.
