Nepalgunj, Dec.5: The Nepalgunj-based office of the Food Management and Trading Company has so far purchased above 7,000 quintals of paddy.
Bharat Upadhyay, information officer at the Food Management and Trading Company, Nepalgunj, said that the company has started procurement of paddy since November 22, and it has purchased 7,100 quintals of paddy in 10 days at the government-fixed rate.
He said that they are buying 600 to 800 quintals paddy on a daily basis.
He said that even though tokens were distributed to each farmer to supply 50 quintals of paddy, they were bringing more than that amount to sell.
The company has set a target to buy 40,000 quintals paddy, and 875 farmers in Banke have already taken tokens to sell more than 45,000 quintals paddy.
There will be problems if the quota is not increased, said Upadhyay.
According to the company, most of the farmers in the district are coming to sell paddy as the government has decided to purchase paddy at the fixed minimum support price.
According to the company, it has fixed to buy 20,000 quintals of coarse paddy and 20,000 quintals of medium paddy.
The government has fixed the minimum support price of coarse paddy at Rs. 2,735 per quintal and medium paddy at Rs. 2,885 per quintal.
