Kathmandu, July 3: Swollen rivers triggered by incessant heavy rains for the last four days across the country damaged over a dozen physical infrastructures, especially suspension and motorable bridges.
Several houses in the Terai region have been waterlogged while in the hills, they were swept away or buried by landslides.
Similarly, roads were blocked by landslides affecting movements of people.
Although some people went missing on Friday, no casualty was reported at the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Authority (NDRRMA) as of 6:00 pm today, according to Bedh Nidhi Khanal, joint spokesperson and undersecretary for the NDRRMA.
As of the update, 33 people were killed, 31 went missing and 36 were injured in the landslide and flood incidents across the country.
Man goes missing, two injured
Our Tanahun correspondent Amarraj Naharki stated that 80-year-old Nara Bahadur Bista of Byas Municipality-9 was swept away by the Kelesti River on Friday while he was crossing it.
Yubaraj Timilsina, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Tanahun, said search for the man was going on.
Similarly, two youths were injured in a landslide on Friday. DSP Timilsina said Saroj Rimal, 24, and Sunil Rawal were injured in a landslide in Purkot of Bhanu Municipality-8.
Similarly, Marsyangdi River damaged a suspension bridge linking Tanahun with Gorkha district.
Similarly, our district correspondent Nagendra Kumar Karna from Mahottari stated that water level in various rivers crossed its danger level because of the continuous rains for the past four days.
Several houses were waterlogged in various areas. The Rato River at the district headquarters Jaleshwore, also crossed it danger level and started eroding its embankment. The local administration has already mobilised security personnel, including the Nepali Army to save the embankment.
Water levels have also risen in the Jangha, Madha, Bighi, Geruki and Kutameshwari rivers. Meanwhile, several settlements in Sarlahi district got inundated because of incessant rainfalls.
District Administration Office at Malangawa, the district headquarters, and a police office also faced inundation, according to acting CDO Bhumishwor Pokharel. Water accumulated up to knee level in the office rooms.
Similarly, a police post at Aurahi in Chakraghatta Rural Municipality got inundated, Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh Rathore said.
Similarly, nearly three dozen houses were waterlogged in Malangawa Municipality-5. Our Parsa correspondent Deepak Gautam wrote that many areas of the district headquarters Birgunj, including the rural areas of the district, have been inundated due to continuous rains for the past few days.
More than a dozen villages in the rural areas of the district have been inundated, while many wards of the Birgunj metropolis have been under water due to the floods in the Shrisiya River.
Some settlements in Chhapkaiya, Adarshnagar, Ranighat, Sripur, Ashokbatika, Nayabasti and Radhemai toles of wards 1, 2, 10, 11, 13, 22 and 25 have been inundated.
According to Bhim Kant Paudel, Acting Chief District Officer of the District Administration Office, Parsa, water level has risen from Ashokbatika to Jyotinagar.
Similarly, the flooded Oriya River have caused damages in Chhipaharmai and Pakahamainpur. The road section leading to Bishwa, Jayamangalapur, Bishwa-Sabithwa and Bishwa-Tiuki of Chhipaharmai Rural Municipality has been inundated.
Similarly, paddy saplings sowed this week have been damaged in Dhobiyatole, Khesraha and Sabithwa areas in the district.
