Kathmandu, Apr. 26: All international and domestic flights will remain suspendend untill May 15, the government decided on Saturday.
The 21st meeting of High Level Coordination Committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ishwar Pokharel to prevent and control COVID-19, took a decision to this effect on Saturday in view of the rising number of coronavirus cases across the world and Nepal. Prior to this, the task force had suspended all the domestic and international flights till April 30 as a plan to contain the COVID-19 outbreak.
The meeting decided to extend the suspension of all the international and domestic flights till May 15 to control the virus outbreak, said Secretaray at the Prime Minister’s Office Narayan Bidari, member secretray of the High Level Coordination Committee.
When asked if the lockdown would be continued or not, Bidari said, “The discussion over extending the lockdown is underway and the Cabinet will decide wheather to extend it or not.” The government would review the effectiveness of lockdown and would make further decision, he added.
Besides this, the meeting had also reveiwed the measures the government has taken to prevent the outbreak of coronavirus. “So far, the government has been able to control the outbreak of COVID-19. Because of the strict lockdown, we have been able to contain the virus.”
Bidari said the committee had further decided to intensify the virus containment measures through mass testing, identifying COVID-19 patients and treating the infected patinets.
“The government has also made medical goods and logistics accessible in all seven provinces. We are now in a condition to transport medical goods in all provinces and will continue that,” he said.
The committee has also expressed its gratitude towards health workers, secuirty personnel, officials of the concerned bodies and media for their effrots in the battle against the virus.
