Kathmandu, June 23: After the 54-day-long restriction was lifted for private vehicles starting Tuesday, they have started plying the Kathmandu Valley’s roads again.
As per the decision of the three district administrations of the Valley, the vehicles have come into operation on the basis of even-odd number plate rule -- meaning that the vehicles bearing an even number in their number plate are allowed to ply on even date while those bearing an odd number are allowed to do so on the odd date.
In addition, taxis have also been allowed to operate based on the same rule, according to Senior Superintendent of Police and chief for Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, Janak Bahttarai.
However, public transport has not been given permission to resume their service yet.
The police have been checking the plying vehicles in various places of the Valley. "The moment you stop the running vehicles for a few seconds, that will result in a traffic jam. The situation is no different in most places of the Valley,” SSP Bhattarai said.
