Kathmandu, July 29: At least eight persons lost their lives in landslides and floods triggered by continuous torrential rains in several parts of the country in the last 24 hours.
According to National Disaster for Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), two people have gone missing while six others were injured in the monsoon-related havoc within last 24 hours.
Landslides triggered by heavy rains blocked highways in three places.
According to Joint Secretary and spokesperson of the Authority, Murari Wosti, a man died on the spot when a landslide hit his home at Neurikot of Thasang Rural Municipaliyt-2 in Mustang district on Monday night. In the incident, another person was injured.
Two persons went missing in a landslide at Sallekheti village of Duhu Rural Municipality of Darchula district. The landslide in the village hit the house of a local resident.
Similarly, a male child was found dead who had been missing in a landslide for the past five days on Tuesday at Badali village of Mahakali Municipality-3 of Darchula district.
Likewise, two persons were buried to death and one left injured after a house was swept away by a landslide on Tuesday morning at Syalakhet in Bafikot Rural Municipality-9 of Rukum (West) district.
Similarly, three people were killed in landslides of Tamankhola Rural Municipality-2 and Nishikhola Rural Municipality-1 of Baglung district on Tuesday morning.
Two children were buried to death in a landslide at Kholeswang village in Tamankhola Rural Municipality-2 of the district. Another three-year old boy was also killed in the landslide that fell at a home this morning in Nishikhola Rural Municipality.
A man was swept away by a local stream while he was going to his paddy field on Tuesday morning at Asardi of Rambha Rural Municipality in Palpa district.
Likewise, transportation on Araniko Highway came to a halt as a landslide took place at Kothe area of Balefi Rural Municipality-5 in Sindhupalchowk district.
Siddhartha Highway at Gaude bridge of Tansen Municipality-8 in Palpa district and Mid-hill Highway at Tiwari Bhanjyang of Paudumma Rural Municipality-2 in Bhojpur were blocked temporarily.
Weather to remain mostly cloudy till Thursday
Meanwhile, Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said that weather throughout the country would remain mostly cloudy till Thursday with chances of heavy and continuous rains in few places of State 1, 2, Bagmati, Gandaki, and State 5 and at one or two places of Karnali State and Sudur Pashchim State.
According to the DHM, light to moderate rain is likely to continue at many places of the country.
