Kathmandu, Jan. 26: Deputy Prime Minister and Secretariat member of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Ishwar Pokhrel said on Monday they had taken the decision made by the Election Commission Nepal (ECN) positively.
Speaking at a press conference organised to announce the mass meeting of February 5, DPM Pokhrel said, “We respect the decision of the commission. The commission has said the same thing that we have been saying -- there has been no split in the party.”
Stating that they had not ousted anyone from the party, DPM Pokhrel said they were always in favour of party unity. “Yesterday’s decision of the ECN has also confirmed that the NCP has not split.”
He added that party unity was possible if co-chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ agreed to withdraw the charge sheet registered against the party chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on November 13 and take part in the scheduled election.
He further said that the current situation could be reversed and party unity could be kept intact if the faction agreed to accept the above conditions.
Shedding light on the need to organising the mass gathering, DPM Pokhrel said, “Chaos has been created in the country to hurt the people’s sentiment. So, the mass gathering is called against the anarchy and political instability seen in the country.” A 1111-member public meeting mobilisation committee has been formed under the coordination of Minister for Education and Science and Technology Krishna Gopal Shrestha to conclude the meeting successfully.
The mass gathering is being held at Bhrikuti Mandap with the slogan, “Fresh mandate to end anarchy, safeguarding geographical integrity and political stability through development and prosperity to protect the constitution”.
Minister Shrestha said during the mass gathering Prime Minister and party chairman KP Sharma Oli would disclose very important information about the current political crisis in the country.
To make the event successful, the party has also formed mass meeting mobilisation committees in the provincial, district, city and ward levels.
A 25-member secretariat has also been formed under the chairmanship of Pokharel to make the event successful.
