Charikot, Feb. 14: Smart district programme under Digital Nepal Framework project has started from Dolakha.
Spokesperson of the government and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Parbat Gurung on Saturday announced Smart Dolakha through a programme at the district headquarters Charikot. The government started the smart district campaign with the objective of providing paperless and faceless services to the citizens through internet.
He inaugurated the smart district construction work by handing over an FTT router capable of operating video and data services to ward chairman of Bhimeshwor Municipality Ward No. 6 Navin Lama.
"The programme has moved ahead to provide paperless and faceless services through the application of information technology in the municipal centres, ward offices, health centres and community schools."
He said, "Now, arrangements will be made to provide services through information technology and internet connection required to run digital programmes from designated offices and organizations."
Digital services will be provided in nine municipal centers, 74 ward offices, 57 health institutions and 136 community schools of the district by providing internet within mid-March.
Stating that the government has taken Digital Nepal Framework as a game changer scheme, he said that the programme has been brought to reduce the distance between remote and inaccessible places of the country and give the impression.
"Internet and telephone services will be provided through optical fiber in all parts of Dolakha and internet services will be available through wireless broadband in areas where optical fiber is not available," said Dilli Adhikari, Executive Director at Nepal Telecom.
He said that the government has set a target of providing high speed internet service in all the municipalities within this current fiscal year.
Nepal Telecom has estimated that it will cost Rs. 72,000 for a municipal centre and ward office, Rs. 102,000 for a health office, Rs. 317,000 for a secondary school and Rs. 217,000 for a primary school and the internet service will be free for one year, said Adhikari.
