Kathmandu, May 11: Reconstruction of Daharhara has not moved in full swing due to the shortage of manpower.
The reconstruction of Dharahara that was halted due to the lockdown resumed from May 2 as per a decision of the government.
The construction of the Dharahara was halted midway. Prior to the lockdown, construction of the tower was moving smoothly, adding two floors every month.
Raju Man Manandhar, an expert of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), said reconstruction these days was moving only partially in absence of the required workforce.
Now only 30 to 40 labourers are working in the construction site whereas before the enforcement of lockdown 200 workers were mobilised every day, he said.
According to Thapa, they need to wait for a few more days to give full speed to the reconstruction work.
Most of the labourers working in the construction site were from Saptari district. They have returned to their home just a day before the lockdown was imposed.
“After the government allowed moving ahead the reconstruction work, efforts are now underway to bring the workers,” he said.
Manadhar said that now the workers of Kolkata, India, who were unable to return home due to the lockdown, were working in the project. But they are now asking for leave to return home.
Construction of other structures like triple basement, four-storey museum, roof-top garden, reconstruction of Sundhara, demolishing of Kathmandu Mall, conservation of Sundhara water spout and preserving the remains of the old Dharahara by using glass frame have to be moved in parallel with Dharahara tower to complete the project fast, he said.
